Riverkeeper

Great River Project


On the 4th of July 2011 Ottawa Riverkeeper launched the great River Project, an ambitious and interactive journey to document the state of the Ottawa River and share the ecology and rich cultural heritage of this magnificent river with a wide audience.


Ottawa Riverkeeper Meredith Brown has been paddling the river with an expert team of photographers, naturalists, historians, scientists and a motivated group of students. Those taking part in Trip 4 of the journey arrives in Bristol on Wednesday, September 7th. There will be a public engagement at Pine Lodge from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm to have the opportunity to speak with Meredith and share stories and/or concerns about the Ottawa River.

News of this week

Thanks to all who came to Quyon for our Feel Fit meeting in the basement of the United Church. The bracelet campaign has now started. 10 members are now setting their next six week goal in order to earn their "F" on Oct. 2nd.
The Taste of the Pontiac was a good experience unfortunately it rained buckets and our yoga and table were closed. Thanks to member Sandi for all her organizing work with "Action Pontiac" .
On Oct. 2nd we are having another large "FEEL FIT" event in Calumet Island at Chez Kim's. The event starts at 10:00am with coffee and fruit and music by Larry Evans .A free brunch will be served at 11:00am. At 12:00 we will have Dr. Isabelle Gagon speak on our physical limitations and returning to exercise after injury.
If you wish to attend let me know and I will reserve a ticket for you.
If you know of any interested people in yoga I am starting fall classes in Sept.

Feel Fit in Quyon!


Hello All,

Another beautiful day for us to keep moving and trying to feel fit!
Thanks to those who have already respnded re Aug. 21st. Please let me know if you are attending. We meet at 12:30 at the United Church basement in Quyon. Our meeting will be a short one as we hope everyone can take in the evnet `Taste of the Pontica!` Bring your own lunch for our meeting.

One Way to Feel Fit!


Move More and FEEL FIT with the Walking Group in Wakefield!

How it works:

“10,000 Steps Challenge”

When you walk 10,000 steps in a day, please send Irene* an e-mail of the date and the numbers of steps you walked. Then you will be officially in the '10,000 Steps Club list' !!

You will be recognized at the next public DBD Wellness Session (tentative date: Tuesday, Sept. 6).



Everyone is welcome to join the Walking Group.

We meet at the Wakefield Information Booth (across from Wakefield Express) at 7:00am on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays. Just show up and walk at your own pace and admire nature, especially the beauty of the Hendrick Park trail.

Love to have you join us, it is a fun way to start your day!!


DBD Wellness:

Dream Believe Do Wellness is a new program to help you take charge and be responsible for your health and wellness based on Eating Healthy, Moving More and Laughing Often. The program provides education, communication and motivation as you learn to Dream, Believe and DO healthy activities daily to build and maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit lifestyle.

DBD Wellness Class:

Tuesdays we swim at 8:30am and it is followed by a DBD Wellness Class focusing on “Eating Healthy” based on the Canada Food Guide.

FEEL FIT Incentive Award program!

Hello Girls,

This has been a beautiful summer and as our thoughts turn towards fall we are pleased to announce the FEEL FIT Incentive Award program!
We have a bracelet and our logo and letters all waiting for you!!!.

Here is the criteria:
Attend the Aug 21st meeting in Quyon at the United Church on Main St at 12:30.
The initial bracelet will be for sale at a very reduced cost!. (thanks to the New Horizon grant) $5.00 for the logo and bracelet. This is an introductory offer so don't wait, get in on this great opportunity.
At the next meeting we will be awarding the first letter "F" to all who come to the Oct. 2nd meeting which will be in Calumet Island and bring their calendar all filled in and goals realized. Be prepared to talk about your success.
If you can not make it to the meeting, email and prove your goal was achieved.
Bracelets will be for sale at each meeting but our first group to begin will be at the Aug. 21st meeting. if you are steady and diligent with your goals you will complete your bracelet in one years time. The bracelet will have all the letters F E E L F I T.
The BRACELET CLUB will be a highly regarded group within our organization. It will be a visable measure of your success to others as well as yourself.
Goal setting sessions are available from highly skilled members of our group. Ask me for more info.

For the Aug. 21 meeting at 12:30 please email and let me know of you are attending. We plan to take in "Taste of The Pontiac" so we will not be having a lunch catered. Bring your own sandwich or salad.

We will have a table and I will be giving yoga demos at various times through out the afternoon. If you would like to be at the table to talk to people and let them know what we do, please let me know. The event is from 1-4pm.

Also if you want to participate in the yoga bring your mat &/or beach towel.

It's August now!

While the summer is still around, we should set up and challenge more of our fitness goals outdoor. Don't forget several months later, it'll be winter again. Enjoy the heat, lawn mowing, gardening, walking in the bush...and join us for the upcoming events and activities!

At our Aug. 21st meeting we are planning to go to Quyon to host our meeting .

We have been offered the United Church basement for our meeting space. The Taste of the Pontiac is taking place and we would like to support their endeavour by attending. We plan to have a table at the event. If you like to attend, please let Muriel know.

We truly hope you are using your goal setting calendar and are working on your goals. We always feel more successful after we complete a goal that has been written down. It gives more satisfaction to see the results.
